{"id":1687,"date":"2023-08-16T11:35:14","date_gmt":"2023-08-16T11:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saad.appscodestudio.com\/?p=1687"},"modified":"2023-08-16T11:41:39","modified_gmt":"2023-08-16T11:41:39","slug":"dal-makhani-instant-pot-stovetop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saad.appscodestudio.com\/index.php\/2023\/08\/16\/dal-makhani-instant-pot-stovetop\/11\/35\/1687\/14\/appdev2098\/countries-dinner-ideas\/indian-dinner\/","title":{"rendered":"Dal Makhani Instant Pot Stovetop"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Restaurant style Dal Makhani\u00a0is a one-pot, healthy, protein-rich curry recipe made with whole urad dal and kidney beans, cooked in a spicy, flavorful onion-tomato gravy along with few spices in an Instant Pot Pressure Cooker<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1\u00a0cup\u00a0black whole urad dal (whole black gram lentils)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc\u00a0cup\u00a0rajma (kidney beans)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3&nbsp;tablespoons&nbsp;butter&nbsp;divided<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a0tablespoon\u00a0ginger garlic paste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1&nbsp;medium&nbsp;onion&nbsp;finely chopped, (about 1 cup)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2&nbsp;large&nbsp;tomatoes&nbsp;diced or pureed (about 1 cup tomato puree)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3&nbsp;cups&nbsp;water&nbsp;for cooking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3p6C3Hy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">salt<\/a>&nbsp;to taste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc&nbsp;cup&nbsp;heavy cream&nbsp;(or cashew cream, coconut cream)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2\u00a0teaspoons\u00a0kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves)\u00a0optional<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Spices:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00bd\u00a0teaspoon\u00a0turmeric powder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a0teaspoon\u00a0red chilli powder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a0teaspoon\u00a0coriander powder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd\u00a0teaspoon\u00a0garam masala powder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Whole Spices<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1\u00a0bay leaf<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a0teaspoon\u00a0cumin seeds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3\u00a0cloves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a0inch\u00a0cinnamon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2\u00a0cardamom<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a0black cardamom\u00a0optional<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For Garnish:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2&nbsp;tablespoons&nbsp;coriander leaves (cilantro)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cream&nbsp;as needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructions&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Soaking the Lentils<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Soak black gram lentils (urad dal) and red kidney beans (rajma) for at least 4+ hours in hot water or overnight in 3 cups of water.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instant Pot Method:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Press SAUTE on&nbsp;<strong>Instant Pot<\/strong>. Heat 2 tablespoons of butter (or oil), then add whole spices like cumin seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon, cardamom and cloves. Saute for few seconds until fragrant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then add onions and saute for 3-4 minutes or until onions turn light brown.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add ginger garlic paste and saute till the raw smell of the ginger-garlic goes away.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then add 1 cup pureed tomatoes or finely chopped tomatoes. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or till the mixture thickens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add spices like red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala and salt. Mix well. Cook the masala until the oil oozes out from the sides.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, add the soaked black gram lentils (black urad dal), kidney beans (rajma), and water for cooking. Mix well.Also Deglaze the pot, i.e., make sure there is no food particle sticking to the pot to avoid\u00a0BURN\u00a0alerts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Furthermore, close the lid on the pot, and turn the pressure valve to\u00a0the SEALING\u00a0position. Set the pot to\u00a0&#8220;BEAN\/CHILI&#8221;\u00a0Mode\u00a0and set the timer to\u00a030 minutes. Once the pot beeps, do a NATURAL PRESSURE RELEASE (NPR).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove the lid away from you. Set to the SAUTE mode. The dal and rajma should be thoroughly cooked. Mash the lentils and rajma with the back of a spoon or ladle for a thick and creamier consistency.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crush some kasuri methi between your palms and add to the gravy along with butter and heavy cream. Mix well and simmer the curry for another 10 minutes or until you get desired consistency.Don&#8217;t worry if the curry is liquid by consistency. It will thicken as it cools down.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Instant Pot Restaurant Style Punjabi Dal Makhani (Madras Lentils) recipe is ready. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with naan &amp; jeera rice, and basmati rice.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stovetop Pot Method<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pressure cook the soaked whole urad dal (black gram lentils) &amp; rajma (kidney beans) with 3 cups of water and a little salt in the traditional stovetop pressure cooker (or Instant Pot).<strong>Instant Pot:<\/strong>&nbsp;Pressure cook on Manual (High Pressure) for 30 minutes with natural pressure release.<strong>Stovetop<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Pressure Cooker:<\/strong>&nbsp;Pressure cook on high heat for 10 whistles and then reduce to low and cook for 10 minutes. So thats around 15 to 20 whistles in total. Wait for natural pressure release.<strong>Note:<\/strong>&nbsp;The cooked black urad dal &amp; rajma beans should be soft and easily mashed when pressed between the finger and thumb. Set aside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heat 2 tablespoons of butter (or oil), in a large pan (or dutch oven). Add whole spices like cumin seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves. Saute for a few seconds until fragrant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then add onions and saute for 3-4 minutes or until onions turn light brown.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add ginger garlic paste and saute till the raw smell of the ginger-garlic goes away.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then add 1 cup pureed tomatoes (or finely chopped tomatoes). The longer this dal simmers, the more creamy it gets and tastes better.&nbsp;Stir at regular intervals so that the dal doesn&#8217;t stick to the bottom of the pan. You will also need to add water while the dal is simmering.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While stirring, mash a few lentils with the back of a spoon or ladle for a thick and creamier consistency.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After the dal has simmered for 30 minutes, Crush some kasuri methi between your palms and add to the gravy along with butter and heavy cream. Mix well and simmer the curry for another 10 minutes or until you get desired consistency.Punjabi Dal Makhani recipe is ready.
