{"id":2382,"date":"2023-08-27T16:09:35","date_gmt":"2023-08-27T16:09:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saad.appscodestudio.com\/?p=2382"},"modified":"2023-08-27T16:09:36","modified_gmt":"2023-08-27T16:09:36","slug":"chinese-steamed-pork-buns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saad.appscodestudio.com\/index.php\/2023\/08\/27\/chinese-steamed-pork-buns\/16\/09\/2382\/35\/appdev2098\/countries-breakfast\/chinese\/","title":{"rendered":"Chinese Steamed Pork Buns"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">YEAST ACTIVATION:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1\u00a0tsp\u00a0active dry yeast powder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/4 cup \/ 65 ml\u00a0warm water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a0tbsp\u00a0white sugar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">DOUGH:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1\/2 cup \/125 ml\u00a0warm water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4 tbsp \/70g\u00a0white sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 cups \/ 300g\u00a0plain flour\u00a0(all purpose)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 cup \/ 155g\u00a0cornflour \/ cornstarch<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/4 cup \/ 65 ml\u00a0vegetable oil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 1\/2\u00a0tsp\u00a0baking powder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PORK FILLING:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1\u00a0tbsp\u00a0vegetable oil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/3\u00a0cup\u00a0finely chopped escalot or white onion\u00a0<em>(Note 1)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a0tbsp\u00a0sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 1\/2\u00a0tbsp\u00a0soy sauce\u00a0<em>, regular or light (not dark)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 1\/2\u00a0tbsp\u00a0oyster sauce\u00a0<em>(can sub Hoisin)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a0tbsp\u00a0sesame oil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/2\u00a0cup\u00a0water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a0tbsp\u00a0cornflour dissolved in 1 tbsp water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 1\/2\u00a0cups\u00a0Chinese Barbecue Pork\u00a0<em>, diced (Note 2)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">DOUGH:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Yeast Activation: Place yeast, sugar and water in a small bowl. Mix, then set aside for 10 minutes until it becomes foamy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place flour, cornflour and sugar in a stand mixer bowl fitted with a dough hook. Mix briefly to combine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add yeast mixture, oil and water. Mix on low speed for 3 minutes until a smooth ball of dough forms. It should be soft and elastic, not so sticky it gets stuck all over your hands. Adjust with a touch of flour\/water if required to get the dough consistency right.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cover with cling wrap and place in a warm dry place for 2 hours until it doubles in volume. (Note 3).&nbsp;<em>Meanwhile, make Filling.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove cling wrap, scatter over baking powder. Return to stand mixer and mix on low for 2 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn dough out onto work surface, sprinkle with flour. Knead lightly to form a smooth round disc.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MAKING BUNS:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cut dough into 4 pieces. Take one piece, roll into an even log, cut into 3 pieces (so 12 pieces in total).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take one piece of dough, cover remaining with cling wrap or tea towel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Roll into round 4.5&#8243; \/ 11 cm in diameter, making the edges thinner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place dough in hand, put 1 1\/2 tbsp of Filling in the centre.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pinch 8 pleats around the edges. Then gather the pleats together one by one to seal the bun. Pinch the top the twist.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat with remaining dough &#8211; make 12 in total.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cover buns loosely with cling wrap and leave in a warm place for 15 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">STEAMING:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Line a large bamboo steamer (or other steamer) with parchment paper punctured with holes (Note 4).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place 6 to 8 buns on paper, cover with steamer lid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pour about 4 cm \/ 1 1\/2 inches in a wok \/ pot (steamer should not touch water) and bring to rapid simmer over medium high.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place steamer in wok, then cook for 12 minutes. Check water halfway through, top up if required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Buns are ready when they spring back when touched, and the buns have formed a smooth skin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove steamer from wok, serve warm!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FILLING:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add eschalots and cook for 2 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add sugar, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil and water. Mix.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While stirring, slowly pour cornflour mixture in. Mix until smooth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stir in pork. Cook until sauce is thickened, 1 &#8211; 1 1\/2 minutes (see video for consistency).
