{"id":2706,"date":"2023-08-31T13:05:32","date_gmt":"2023-08-31T13:05:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saad.appscodestudio.com\/?p=2706"},"modified":"2023-08-31T13:05:33","modified_gmt":"2023-08-31T13:05:33","slug":"tokneneng-and-kwek-kwek","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saad.appscodestudio.com\/index.php\/2023\/08\/31\/tokneneng-and-kwek-kwek\/13\/05\/2706\/32\/appdev2098\/filipino-food\/appetizers\/","title":{"rendered":"TOKNENENG AND KWEK-KWEK"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Tokneneng is one of the popular street foods made from chicken or duck eggs, coated with crispy orange colored batter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>18 to 20&nbsp;pcs&nbsp;chicken eggs or native duck&nbsp;itik eggs (for Tokneneng) or 3 dozen of quail eggs (for Kwek-kwek)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>6&nbsp;Tbsp.&nbsp;cornstarch<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cooking oil for deep frying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For the batter:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2&nbsp;cups&nbsp;all-purpose flour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1&nbsp;tsp.&nbsp;baking powder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 1\/4&nbsp;cups&nbsp;water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1&nbsp;tsp.&nbsp;salt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1&nbsp;tsp.&nbsp;pepper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>orange food coloring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For the dipping sauce:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1\/4&nbsp;cup&nbsp;vinegar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1&nbsp;cup&nbsp;water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1&nbsp;Tbsp.&nbsp;soy sauce<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2&nbsp;Tbsp.&nbsp;brown sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1&nbsp;pc red onion&nbsp;chopped finely<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1&nbsp;pc siling labuyo or chili pepper&nbsp;optional<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to cook tokneneng or kwek kwek:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Boil the eggs in water for 10 to 15 minutes and add a little salt. Don&#8217;t cover the pot while cooking the eggs to avoid cracks on the shells. Drain the eggs and put tap water to cool.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Peel the eggs and coat with cornstarch. Set aside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To make the batter; in a bowl, mix the flour, salt, pepper and water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mix the batter using a fork or an electric hand mixer and mix until all the lumps disappear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While mixing, add a few drops of food coloring if you are using liquid coloring or if powdered, start with a small amount until the desired orange color is achieved.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In a deep frying pan, heat enough oil to deep fry the eggs. Put the eggs in the batter and use a spoon to scoop the eggs from the batter then put it in hot oil one by one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t overcrowd the pan with eggs. 3 to 4 eggs per batch is enough to avoid the battered eggs from sticking with each other.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fry until the batter is crispy and remove from pan using a slotted spoon. Drain with paper towels or use a strainer to drain excess oil. Serve hot with dipping sauce.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To make the dipping sauce; just combine vinegar, soy sauce, sugar, onions, water and chili.
