It\u2019s the perfect meld of zingy tomato sauce, gooey cheese and chewy crust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For the pizza dough<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1\u00a0ball\u00a0Best Pizza Dough\u00a0(or\u00a0Food Processor Dough\u00a0or\u00a0Thin Crust Dough)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Semolina flour or cornmeal, for dusting the pizza peel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For the pizza sauce<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1&nbsp;small garlic clove (1\/2&nbsp;medium)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>15 ounces&nbsp;crushed fire roasted tomatoes or San Marzano tomatoes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tablespoon&nbsp;extra virgin olive oil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd teaspoon&nbsp;dried oregano<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scant\u00a0\u00bd teaspoon\u00a0 salt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For the toppings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1\/4&nbsp;to&nbsp;1\/3&nbsp;cup pizza sauce<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00be cup&nbsp;shredded mozzarella cheese or&nbsp;2&nbsp;to&nbsp;3&nbsp;ounces fresh mozzarella cheese<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parmesan cheese, for topping<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fresh basil leaves, for garnish<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Make the pizza dough:<\/strong>\u00a0Follow the\u00a0Best Pizza Dough\u00a0recipe to prepare the dough. (This takes about 15 minutes to make and 45 minutes to rest.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Place a\u00a0pizza stone\u00a0in the oven and preheat to 500\u00b0F. OR preheat your pizza oven (here\u2019s the\u00a0pizza oven we use).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Make the pizza sauce:<\/strong>\u00a0Cut the garlic into a few rough pieces. Place the garlic, tomatoes, olive oil, oregano and\u00a0kosher salt\u00a0in a blender. Blend until fully combined. (You\u2019ll use about \u2153 cup for the pizza; reserve the remaining sauce and refrigerate for up to 1 week.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prepare the cheese:\u00a0<\/strong>If using fresh mozzarella cheese, slice it into \u00bc inch thick pieces (see the photos of the pre-baked pizza above). If it\u2019s incredibly watery fresh mozzarella (all brands vary), you may want to let it sit on a paper towel to remove moisture for about 15 minutes then dab the mozzarella with the paper towel to remove any additional moisture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bake the pizza:<\/strong>\u00a0When the oven is ready, dust a\u00a0pizza peel\u00a0with cornmeal or semolina flour. (If you don\u2019t have a pizza peel, you can use a rimless baking sheet or the back of a rimmed baking sheet. But a pizza peel is well worth the investment!) Stretch the dough into a circle; see\u00a0How to Stretch Pizza Dough\u00a0for instructions. Then gently place the dough onto the pizza peel.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 5<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Spread a thin layer of the pizza sauce over the dough, using about \u00bc to \u2153 cup. Add the mozzarella cheese. Top with a thin layer of fresh grated Parmesan cheese and a few pinches of  salt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 6<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the pizza peel to carefully transfer the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone. Bake the pizza until the cheese and crust are nicely browned, about 5 to 7 minutes in the oven (or 1 minute in a pizza oven).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 7<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Allow the pizza to cool for a minute or two before adding the basil on top (whole leaves, lightly torn, or thinly sliced).
