This will remove the excess oil on the aburaage. Cut in half lengthwise and slice thinly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add some water and\u00a0<strong>3 oz konnyaku (konjac)<\/strong>\u00a0to a small pot and boil for 3 minutes to remove the smell. It also makes the konnyaku absorb flavors more and improves the texture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cut\u00a0<strong>3 oz carrot<\/strong>\u00a0into julienne pieces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cut\u00a0<strong>\u00bc lotus root (renkon)<\/strong>\u00a0into thin pieces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heat\u00a0<strong>1 Tbsp neutral oil<\/strong>\u00a0in a medium pot over medium heat. Add the carrot and lotus root and cook until they are coated with oil.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the hijiki, then the konnyaku and aburaage. Mix it all together.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add\u00a0<strong>2 cups dashi (Japanese soup stock)<\/strong>\u00a0and let it boil.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add all the seasonings:\u00a0<strong>\u00bc cup mirin<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>2 Tbsp sugar<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>\u00bc cup soy sauce<\/strong>. Mix well.
