Easy to make, this baked casserole is wonderfully creamy and is a great family meal that you can make ahead of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>12\u00a0ounces\u00a0egg noodles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>12\u00a0ounces\u00a0shredded cheeses; Gruyere\u00a0Sharp Cheddar or Monterey Jack; divided<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2\u00a0cups\u00a0ruffled-style potato chips\u00a0roughly crushed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2\u00a0slices\u00a0hearty white bread\u00a0torn into 1-inch pieces<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5\u00a0tablespoons\u00a0cold unsalted butter\u00a0<em>divided<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd\u00a0teaspoon\u00a0kosher salt\u00a0divided<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd\u00a0teaspoon\u00a0freshly ground black pepper\u00a0<em>divided<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a0teaspoon\u00a0dried herbs\u00a0divided; Fines Herbes, parsley or Herbes de Provence work well<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a012-ounce can solid white albacore tuna packed in water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a08 ounce can sliced water chestnuts, drained<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2\u00a0tablespoons\u00a0olive oil\u00a0<em>divided<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Juice of 1 lemon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3\u00a0tablespoons\u00a0flour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2\u00a0cups\u00a0Half \u2018n Half or heavy cream<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a014.5 ounce can unsalted chicken broth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd\u00a0cup\u00a0medium-dry white wine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00a010\u00bd ounce can cream of mushroom soup<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00bd\u00a0cups\u00a0frozen peas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Garnish: chopped fresh parsley<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 375\u00b0F.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spray a 9\u00d713-inch casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cook the noodles, to al dente, according to package directions. Drain and set aside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While the noodles cook, combine the cheeses in a medium bowl and mix to combine. Scoop out \u00bc cup of cheese and set the remainder aside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the bowl of a food processor, fitted with the metal blade, add the \u00bc cup shredded cheese, potato chips, bread, 2 tablespoons butter, \u00bc teaspoon salt, \u00bc teaspoon black pepper, and \u00bc teaspoon dried herbs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Process the mixture about 10 pulses or until the mixture becomes medium-coarse crumbs; set aside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drain the tuna in a fine-mesh strainer and press with a rubber spatula to extract as much water as possible. Place the tuna in a large bowl and use a fork to separate the chunks into smaller pieces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add water chestnuts, 1-tablespoon oil, lemon juice, and the remaining \u00bc teaspoon kosher salt, \u00bc teaspoon black pepper and \u00bd teaspoons herbs. Mix lightly; set aside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In a large skillet set over medium-low heat, add 1-tablespoon oil, 1-tablespoon butter and chopped onion. Cook and stir occasionally until onion is translucent and soft, about 6-8 minutes. Add the onions to the tuna mixture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Melt 2 tablespoons butter in the same skillet set over medium heat. Add flour and cook, whisking constantly, until flour is golden, 1-2 minutes. Slowly, while whisking constantly, add the Half \u2018n Half, chicken broth and wine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bring to a boil and reduce the heat to medium-low; simmer 5-7 minutes or until slightly thickened.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove from the heat and add the remaining cheese and the mushroom soup; stir until cheese is melted and mixture is smooth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the milk\/cheese mixture to the tuna mixture and mix well.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the drained pasta and toss until noodles are coated with the creamed mixture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taste and season with salt &amp; black pepper, if needed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add frozen peas and stir to incorporate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pour the mixture into the prepared casserole dish and top with the bread-crumb mixture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bake at 375\u00b0F for 35-45 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
